Feeling Like You’re on Autopilot? Your Subconscious Might Be in Charge

Have you ever reached the end of the day without really knowing how? Have you reacted in a way you didn’t want to and later wondered, “why did I do that?” Or do you find yourself repeating the same type of relationship or habit over and over again?

If this resonates with you, you are not alone. I call this “living on autopilot.” And the reason is fascinating: much of the time, it’s not your conscious mind making the decisions, but your subconscious.

What is the Subconscious Autopilot?

Imagine your mind as an iceberg. The tip we see is your conscious mind (logical, rational). But the vast mass beneath the water is your subconscious. This is where your beliefs, emotions, memories, and the “programs” you learned in childhood to survive are stored.

These programs run automatically. They were useful at the time, but today, many of them may be sabotaging you.

Signs Your Autopilot Needs an Update:

  • Disproportionate Emotional Reactions: Small events that trigger intense anxiety, anger, or sadness. This is a learned response from your subconscious.

  • Self-Sabotage: You procrastinate on your most important goals. You choose partners who aren’t right for you. You spend money you don’t have. Your subconscious may hold a limiting belief (e.g., “I don’t deserve success”) that holds you back.

  • A Sense of Emptiness or Disconnection: You feel like life is “happening to you,” but you’re not truly living it. You’re following an old script instead of writing your own story.

  • Floating Anxiety: That constant restlessness without an apparent cause. Often, it’s an unprocessed emotion living in your subconscious.

The Solution: A Dialogue with the Subconscious

Trying to change these patterns with willpower alone (the conscious mind) is like trying to move an iceberg by pushing only its tip. It’s exhausting and ineffective.

Hypnotherapy is the tool that allows us to “dive deep” and have a direct dialogue with that submerged part. It’s a bridge of communication to understand why those programs were created, thank them for their service, and update them with new ones that are aligned with the person you are today.

Getting off autopilot isn’t about fighting against yourself. It’s about making peace with all parts of you. It’s about taking the wheel of your life with awareness and freedom.

If you’re ready to stop reacting and start choosing, I am here to guide you.
